High on Frostpeak Mountain, where the wind whistles and the snow never melts, lived a little ice monster named Shiver.
Shiver had fluffy black fur, sparkly ice spikes and the biggest blue eyes you have ever seen.

Shiver loved to laugh. But every time he giggled, a puff of icy breath came out.
Hoo-hoo-HOOOSH!
Flowers froze. Pinecones froze. Once, even his own tail froze to a rock!

Down in the valley was the village of Puddleford. Shiver watched the children play and wished he could join in.
But when they saw his pointy teeth and long claws, they shouted, "A monster!" and ran away.

One windy day, a red kite flew all the way up the mountain. It belonged to a girl named Mira.
Mira climbed after it, step by step, until she was face to face with… Shiver!
Shiver held out the kite very, very gently. Mira looked into his big blue eyes and smiled. "Thank you," she said.

That summer, the sun blazed. The river dried up. The flowers drooped. Ice cream melted before anyone could lick it!
"It's too hot to play," the children sighed.

Mira ran all the way up Frostpeak Mountain. "Shiver, we need your ice!"
Shiver shook his head. "What if I freeze everything?"
Mira took his paw. "Breathe gently. I believe in you."

Shiver took a deep breath… and blew a soft, sparkly whoooosh.
Snowflakes danced over Puddleford. The fountain turned into an ice slide. The pond became a shining skating rink!

The children cheered, "Shiver! Shiver!" Nobody was afraid anymore.
And every summer since, when the sun gets too hot, a little ice monster brings the summer snow.
